OK have to let you in on a little secret (hope my opponents aren’t reading this); I love the TE Out or Flag Route in youth football!
What’s great about the out route or flag route is this:
- The CB is reading and reacting to the backfield and the TE is not paid attention to.
- The OLB reads and reacts to the play and realizes too late that the TE is sneaking out and can do nothing.
- The Safety is out of position and can only hope for a perfectly timed tackle after the reception or pass interference.
In my experience when the TE executes these routes and the QB throws to the “spot” this route is good for 10 yds to a TD every time.
So what to do when they adjust for it? Nail the 5 and 6 holes on a lead or cross buck. Keeps your options open!
